New Video: RFID’s role in farm to fork traceability
The food industry provides a major opportunity to demonstrate a substantial ROI for RFID when it comes to food safety, by providing authentication of the origin of food or by reducing waste, optimizing logistics, and increasing the quality of goods to the consumer.
The purpose of the F2F project is to demonstrate the use of RFID at all stages of the production and sales chain, allowing products to be tracked across Europe from the producer (farm) to the end consumer (fork). The project involves international producers, processors, logistics, retailers and consumers around a data system which will deploy standardized solutions to allow the traceability and authentication of food items.
The production and distribution of food is a crucial global concern. The “Farm to Fork” philosophy gives particular attention to the development of effective functioning pilots in supply chain management linked on a national level. The ultimate goal is to raise awareness of the potential benefits of RFID when it comes to food safety.
The Farm2Fork project was officially launched in Brussels by the University of Wolverhampton and 10 partners, representing six EU states.
